Job summary
The role will play a vital role in supporting our efforts to develop
non-photorealistic rendering techniques at Sony Imageworks.
This is an outstanding opportunity to work on some of the industry's most
demanding styles. We seek someone with a creative/technical balance who can work
closely with artists and help us translate their requirements into a roadmap for
advancing our non-photorealistic rendering platform.
You should understand artist tools for painting, illustration, and composition.
You should have a solid grasp of developing tools for the NPR pipeline. Films
such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Mitchells Vs. The Machines are
examples of art-based rendering that exemplify the various styles we have
achieved at Imageworks.
You will join the Development Group and work within the compositing team. In
addition to gaining experience with advanced compositing and non-photorealistic
rendering techniques, you'll be uniquely positioned to work alongside artists
and engineers to deliver the next generation of tools to advance future
productions. In accordance with your interests, you can also contribute to other
disciplines within the software group.
What You'll Do:
• Design solutions in Nuke and potentially other DCCs
• Write tools and plugins for the compositing department
• Integrate your solutions with the compositing teams
• Reduce artist iteration time as well as find efficiencies through more
streamlined toolsets
• Work directly with NPR specialists to discover solutions that create amazing
images for our films
• Contribute to our efforts of solving NPR problems at the compositing level
with blinkScripts and plugins
What You Bring:
• Experience programming in Python and C++
• Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent
• Experience with Nuke's Python APIs, NDK, gizmos, BlinkScript, and compositing
workflows
• A minimum of 3 years creating libraries, custom plugins, and UI tools for VFX
studio
• Knowledge of compositing, lighting and studio pipeline development
• Knowledge of different artistic styles and mediums
• Experience with UNIX / Linux / git
• Knowledge of third-party graphics applications (e.g. Maya, Houdini, Katana,
Unreal)
• Experience with USD
• Experience in the design and implementation of systems in complex libraries
• History of making tools for artists in a production environment (preferably
stylized animated features)
• Knowledge of user interface design and standard UI toolkits, specifically
QT/PyQT
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality software in a fast-paced, dynamic
environment
The anticipated base salary for an Intermediate position is $129,000 to
$185,250/yr. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or
comprehensive benefits per company policy: including healthcare, tuition
reimbursement, RRSP's, sick and vacation leave, standard increases as
applicable. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors,
including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for
the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained,
certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the
location of the position.
